Mpongwe council suspends chairperson

MPONGWE district council has suspended its chairperson Davy Chipamo and two other MMD councillors in the area.

But the suspended councillors have accused the PF of interfering in the operations of councils.

In a letter dated April 26, 2013 signed by Mpongwe district council secretary Winston Kasonkomona, Chipamo, Gregory Ngowani and Jacob Banda have been suspended from executing civic duties.

“RE: suspension from carrying out civic duties: yourself. Reference is made to the above subject matter. The ordinary council meeting which sat on Monday April 22, 2013 and continued on Tuesday April 23, 2013 resolved to suspend you from carrying out your civil duties due to allegations leveled against you,” read the letter in part.

Kasonkomona urged the councillors to vacate office with immediate effect.

But Chipamo accused the PF of interfering in the operations of councils.

“We got letters that we have been suspended. They haven’t given the reasons for suspending us.
