Mpombo to turn himself in

GEORGE Mpombo yesterday said he will turn himself in to the arresting officer and, thereafter, the court in view of a bench warrant issued for his arrest for failing to appear in court.

Chief resident magistrate Joshua Banda yesterday asked police to effect his order to arrest Mpombo.

This was after the arresting officer told magistrate Banda that the arrest warrant against Mpombo, who is Zambia’s former deputy high commissioner to Nigeria, had not been executed.

On March 15, 2013, magistrate Banda issued an arrest warrant against Mpombo following his non-appearance in court over theft by public servant, forgery and uttering a false document involving K18 million.

It is alleged on the first count that Mpombo, jointly and whilst working together with others unknown, being a public servant as minister of defence, stole K18 million, which came into his possession by virtue of employment.
