MP accuses Zambeef of importing over 500 infected cattle

zambeef-logoKalomo Member of Parliament, Request Muntanga has alleged that Zambeef imported over 500 cattle from Tanzania which were infected with prone pneumonia CBPP which is likely to cause Tuberculosis-TB in humans.
Mr. Muntanga said in a point of order in Parliament today that the Tanzanian authorities allowed the exportation of the cattle even with knowledge that they were infected.
He also wondered why the Zambian government allowed the importation of cattle when those from Western Province are banned from moving to other parts of the country in fear of circulating the disease.
Mr. Muntanga alleged that the animals were slaughtered and sold to the public.
Meanwhile, the speaker of the National Assembly, Patrick Matibini, has directed the ministry o Agriculture to issue a ministerial statement on this matter by Friday this week.
