Moroccan King Mohammed VI Leads Council of Ministers Session on 2030 World Cup Preparations.

Rabat: His Majesty King Mohammed VI presided over a significant Council of Ministers session at the Royal Palace in Rabat on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. This session, marking a pivotal moment for Morocco, was highlighted by a presentation from Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance, who also serves as Chairman of the 2030 World Cup Committee.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Minister provided an in-depth update on Morocco’s preparations for the 2030 World Cup, tracing the Kingdom’s progress since the joint candidacy with Spain and Portugal was announced by King Mohammed VI on March 14, 2023, in Kigali. This candidacy was further solidified when FIFA’s Council unanimously selected the Morocco-Spain-Portugal bid as the sole contender on October 4, 2023, an announcement that spurred extraordinary mobilization efforts to align the bid dossier with FIFA’s stringent specifications.

The tripartite bid, which was submitted to FIFA on July 29, 2024, is a testament to the colla
borative efforts of various working groups across ministerial departments, public institutions, companies, and local authorities. FIFA’s evaluation report, released on November 29, 2024, awarded the bid an outstanding score, exceeding all requirements, raising hopes for the bid to be officially awarded hosting rights at the forthcoming FIFA Council Congress.

In alignment with Royal Directives, an expanded committee will be formed, encompassing representatives from civil society, Moroccan expatriates, and African talents, to ensure the event’s success. Efforts will focus on upgrading stadiums, expanding airports, enhancing road infrastructure, and developing telecommunications networks. Additionally, a comprehensive training program aims to bolster the skills of young people, contributing to the national economy’s growth and reinforcing Morocco’s appeal as a tourist destination.

The Council of Ministers also ratified six international conventions to strengthen Morocco’s global partnerships. Furthermore, King
Mohammed VI appointed Zouhair Chorfi as Chairman of the National Electricity Regulatory Authority, with a directive to reform and expand the authority’s scope across the energy sector in line with international standards.
