More by-elections: Supreme Court nullifies election of Kakoma and Kazonga

More By-Elections are coming following the Supreme Court decision to nullify the election of two opposition Members of Parliament – Charles Kakoma of UPND and Eustacio Kazonga of MMD.
The Supreme Court today nullified Kakoma’s Zambezi West Constituency in North Western and Kazonga’s Vubwi constituency in Eastern province.
The two seats were nullified after petitions by PF contesting that the elections were marred by malpractices during the general elections in 2011.
Kakoma is UPND Spokesperson and has been MP for Zambezi West since 2001 while Kazonga is former Minister of Agriculture under the MMD government.
According to the Zambian laws, the by-elections in the two constituencies must be held within 90 days.
These two by-elections and three others that have faced legal challenges will need millions of resources from a struggling economy where health workers have also gone on strike demanding improved conditions of service.
