Mokambo mine construction to start

CONSTRUCTION of the Mokambo underground Copper Mine in Mufulira is to start soon after the approval of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) by the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA).
The Mine, which is being developed by Changfa Resources Limited (CRL) of China, has been closed since 1976 due to falling copper prices on the international market and flood problems.
CRL public relations officer Webster Popo said in a statement in Ndola yesterday that an EIA was conducted successfully at the construction site and the report has been submitted to ZEMA for approval.
“An EIA has already been done and the report was submitted to ZEMA, so we are just waiting for their approval, but the machinery has been brought in, in readiness to commence construction,” Mr Popo said.
Meanwhile the company has donated 900 solar panels worth K12, 88,047.76 to Mufulira District.
