MMD MPs Going to UPND are Broke Claims Shamenda

Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda has charged that people are defecting to the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) because they are broke and want to get support.

Reacting to the recent defection of former MMD Members of Parliament to the UPND, Shamenda who is also Acting Information Minister said the former MPs are flocking their to get funding for their campaigns.

He explained that a lot of people have seen that they can get easy support from the UPND to contest in the by-elections.

Shamenda was speaking in Lusaka on Wednesday July 31 2013. He said the UPND is not popular as people are claiming and that those defecting are merely interested in getting the money from its leader Hakainde Hichilema.

He said Hichilema who had his 500 cows stolen has a lot of fortune which these people are interested in.

Meanwhile, Southern Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe says it would be wishful thinking for the opposition to imagine that they are gaining ground by winning three seats in the just ended parliamentary polls.

Munkombwe says the UPND and MMD victories should not be misconstructed to mean the PF losing political grip.

He told a huge meeting of women drawn from various clubs in chief Simwatachela’s area in Kalomo that President Michael Sata’s leadership style is unique and has left the opposition in total disarray.
