MMD beats PF pants down in Mukaika

Opposition MMD has again beaten ruling Patriotic Front (PF) pants down in Eastern province after scoping the Mkaika parliamentary by-election that took place today, Thursday, September 5, 2013.

The MMD candidate according to compiled results from the 38 Polling stations but yet to be officially announced was ahead with over 4, 000 votes. PF’s David Banda who caused the by-election by joining PF was trailing with two other opposition parties that took part in the poll.

Official results are expected to be announced early hours of September 6.

Addressing a public rally in Mkaika ahead of the by-election, President Michael Sata told the residents that he could not beg them to vote for his candidate. He said it was upto the people of Mkaika to chose development by voting for PF or no development by voting for the opposition.

The MMD recently beat the PF in Chipata central after the seat was nullified by the High Court for malpractices during the 2011 poll.
