While outspoken Chongwe Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo is busy politicking, a serious food shortage has hit villagers in Nangwenya Ward of her constituency in Chongwe district  of Lusaka province.

Masebo is busy campaigning and last week was in Kapiri Mposhi after spending most of the time last month in Livingstone where there was another by-election.

But villagers in her constituency are reportedly threatened with hunger. Nangwenya MMD Ward Councilor Joyce Sakala has confirmed the development to ZANIS in an interview, April, 1, 2013. She has attributed the hunger situation in the area as due to army worms that ravaged the farms as well as the dry spell that Nangwenya Ward experienced in the 2012/2013 farming season.

Councilor Sakala who is moved with the situation has appealed to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) of Vice President’s office to send relief food to the area before the situation gets out of hand. She said it would be unacceptable for the DMMU to delay on  the matter since she had already informed the Unit.

“  The DMMU is aware of of the matter as I have already informed them about  the situation through the comprehensive report  I wrote government, “ she told ZANIS.
