Mangani not sure, as Chapata seat is nullified

Another by-election in Chapata central constituency is expected to be held within the next three months. This follows the Supreme Court verdict to uphold the High Court’s ruling nullifying the election of MMD area Member of Parliament Rueben Mtolo Phiri in 2011 tripartite polls.

Lameck Mangani who contested the seat on Patriotic Front (PF) successfully petitioned the election of Phiri in the High Court as Member of Parliament citing electoral malpractices. But Phiri contested the verdict by High Court and appealed to the Supreme Court.

Today, May 7, 2013 Supreme Court judge Mervin Mwanamwambwa delivered the long awaited verdict in Lusaka citing electoral malpractices to have marred the poll.

And Magani said he was happy with the court verdict saying it will serve as a lesson to politicians that engage in electoral malpractices. He said he will wait to hear if PF will adopt him to recontest the seat.

Recently PF General Secretary Wynter Kabimba said Magani together with Mike Mulongoti were not members of the party. Kabimba explained that the duo just conveniently campaigned for PF after differing with then President, Rupiah Banda.
