Management okays squatting at Copperbelt University

The Copperbelt University has opened after closing last month due to riots caused by management’s move to ban students from squatting.

The University opened on Monday, September 9, 2013 though a check by Zambian Eye at the campus situated in Kitwe on the Copperbelt province found students were still arriving.

Management announced that a mutual understanding has been reached with the students to allow squatting until such time when accommodation problem will be resolved.

Students last month protested against management’s move to ban squatting, a move intended for students to rent in some houses alleged owned by some lecturers which they say are too expensive.
