Malaria, TB and HIV/AIDS posing threat in E/Province – Mushala

EASTERN Province permanent secretary Bert Mushala says malaria, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis have continued to pose a threat in the region.

Officiating at the 1st quarter 2013 Provincial Epidemics Preparedness, Prevention, Control and Management meeting at Luangwa House on Friday, Mushala said new challenges were emerging every day on how to prevent and control the diseases.

Mushala urged stakeholders in the prevention and control of malaria, HIV/AIDS and TB not to relax in the prevention and control of the diseases despite having been around for some time.

Mushala said he was also aware that five cases that were reported as measles from Lundazi were ruled out at the virology laboratory in Lusaka.

“However, this is not the time to relax but ensure all our eligible children get the life-saving measles vaccination in particular and all other vaccinations in general. Dog bites have continued to increase in our province and if nothing is done, an outbreak of rabies is likely.
