THE government says the construction of houses for civil servants in Chinsali district of Muchinga Province must be completed quickly to avert the critical shortage of accommodation in the area.
Transport, works, supply and communication deputy minister Mwimba Malama urged contractors constructing houses in the district to speed up works because it was costly for the government to pay for government workers living in guest houses.
Malama said he was disappointed that the contractor constructing civil servants’ houses in Chinsali was taking long to commence serious construction works.
He said there was no way a contractor could be on foundation level six months after commencing works.
Malama inspected works at Mweye where the government is constructing 30 houses for civil servants under its first phase of the project.
He said the government was in a hurry to complete the housing project.
