Makeni Family refuse K30,000 compensation

A family of Lusaka’s Makeni Township has refused a K30,000 compensation for their relative who was killed in a road accident along Mumbwa road eight months ago, reports Zambian Eye roving reporter, Lameck Phiri.

Mr Christopher Simbao whose brother, Davie Simbao, was a victim of a fatal road accident along Mumbwa Road refused a K30,000 compensation from the driver who caused the death of his brother.

Simbao disclosed this to the Zambian Eye reporter in Lusaka’s town centre during a walking interview. He said the family has refused the K30,000 compensation because of an earlier agreement with the driver of the vehicle for an out of court settlement of K150,000.

He said the family was still at pains in knowing what really transpired because the driver reported the death of his brother three days after the fatal accident and questioned how the driver survived the accident.

‘‘We are still suspicious about of the accident story because the vehicle which was shown to us is damaged beyond recognition and that it was doubtful that anyone could survive the accident. That is the reason why we cannot accept that little money,’’ Simbao said.
