Tourism and Arts Minister Sylvia Masebo has instructed the new ZAWA board to immediately get down to work and help to raise enough funds for the Zambia Wildlife Authority.

And  Masebo has announced the appointment of Xen Vlahakis as Interim Director General of ZAWA

Speaking to the board in Lusaka the Capital of Zambia today January 21, 2013 at the inauguration ceremony of the nine member board of ZAWA chaired by prominent farmer Guy Robinson, Masebo says there was a huge task ahead of the board which would require hard work.

She says that ZAWA had a lot of financial problems which included unpaid terminal benefits for former employees which needed to be sorted out as soon as possible.

Masebo says there was need for the Board to make the Institution Viable so that they could be able to pay off all the debts that ZAWA owed to various institutions.

The Tourism Minister has since called on the members of the board to urgently take up their roles and preserve wildlife in a manner that is sustainable and appreciated by the local community.

Masebo has stated that the appointment of all members on the board was done on merit.

And ZAWA board Chairman, Guy Robinson says the board is in full support of government’s stance on corruption and transparency and has since pledged the Board’s full commitment.

Meanwhile Masebo announced the constitution of 5 committees of the new set up ZAWA board.

The committees include the finance committee to be chaired by Board members Timothy Mushibwe, the Audit committee to be chaired by Mr. Yonous Mitta, the policy, legal and administration committee to be chaired by justice minister Winter Kabimba, his royal highness senior chief Inyambo Yeta to chair the technical and operations committee and vice president’s wife Charlotte Scott to chair the community and wildlife resources committee.
