Mainstream Media Favored PF In The By-Elections – FODEP

The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has noted that there were some levels of malpractices during the just ended by elections.

FODEP Executive Director McDonald Chipenzi said people however went ahead and voted for their preferred candidates despite political parties having total disregard for the electoral laws by giving out gifts to entice them.

He also noted there was bias coverage of campaigns by mainstream media towards the party in power during campaigns.

Chipenzi has however commended the Zambia Police Force and the Electoral Commission of Zambia for policing and conducting the just ended by elections in a professional manner.

The FODEP official has noted with concerns that the just ended by-elections have shown a historical electoral voting pattern in some constituencies.

Chipenzi said at a press briefing in Lusaka on Saturday July 27, 2013.

He added that by choosing to vote for the ruling party and the opposition in the by elections, the electorate have demonstrated that Zambians are proud of their multi party parliament.

Chipenzi adds that the just ended by elections also showed an improvement in women participation though no person with disability was considered.
