Magistrates Mikalile, Chulu recuse themselves in Ronnie’s case

THE case in which former information minister Lt Gen Ronnie Shikapwasha and two others allegedly diverted public funds towards MMD propaganda activities was yesterday tossed from court to court after a magistrate recused herself.

This is a matter which was before Lusaka senior resident magistrate Mwaka Mikalile where Lt Gen Shikapwasha, freelance journalist Chanda Chimba III and former information permanent secretary Dr Samson Phiri are charged with several counts relating to the diversion of public funds towards the MMD’s propaganda activities in 2011.

Lt Gen Shikapwasha and Dr Phiri are in the first count charged with abuse of authority of office for arbitrarily directing, and in disregard to defamation, the ZNBC management to broadcast Chimba’s Stand Up for Zambia documentaries.
