Magistrate denies bail to farmer charged over Chibombo accident

A MKUSHI farmer who has been charged with 51 counts of causing death by dangerous driving was yesterday denied bail due to the gravity of the offence committed, among other reasons.

And RTSA has immediately started implementing the 24-hour management at source operations aimed at impounding defective long-distance buses before they depart from Intercity Bus Terminus in Lusaka as one way of reducing road traffic accidents.

Appearing in the Kabwe Magistrates’ Court for explanation of the charges before principal resident magistrate John Mbuzi, Van eeden Abraham, through his lawyer Mulilo Kabesha, applied for bail.

But the state objected, saying he was not in formal employment as he told the court that he had retired.

The state also objected to Abraham’s bail application because he was of foreign origin and may flee the country.
