Lungu lifts ban on maize exports

ACTING president Edgar Lungu has revoked the ban on export of maize and maize products.

And Lungu says Rupiah Banda should have asked for his passport using the right channels.

Lungu said banning exports of maize and maize products would bring about anarchy in the country.

During a media briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Lungu, who is home affairs minister, said following consultations between the government and other stakeholders both locally and within the region, the government of Zambia had decided to reverse the decision of the Minister of Agriculture suspending the export of maize and maize products.

“The government is currently working out modalities to facilitate the orderly and regulated export of maize and maize products. The government realises that within the country, and indeed in the entire region, there are some areas which have a serious deficit of maize and indeed mealie-meal and other maize products such as bran,” Lungu said.
