Most of the legal challenges filed with the Administrative court against preliminary lists of candidates for local elections were dismissed in form or susbstance, said Administrative Judge, Director of the Media and Communication department at the court Fayçal Bouguerra. Only one challenge was upheld in relation to the ranking of a candidate.

Bouguerra told TAP 38 challenges were lodged in regional courts coming under the Administrative Court; A further 38 were filed with the Tunis Administrative Court. A total of fifty-five challenges were dismissed in form or susbstance out of 57.

One challenge in connection to the partial annulment of the Independent High Authority for Elections (French: ISIE)’s decision on the ranking of a candidate was upheld.

The court ordered the candidate to be reclassified in the list. A last challenge will be considered Monday, the judge said.

Bouguerra added that three challenges had been filed against the decisions of the Administrative Court so far.

The definitive list of c
andidates shall be published by November 28 at the latest, as set out in the election authority’s calendar.

The election campaign is due to start on December 2.
