LCC Workers Demand Payrise

A storm is brewing at the Lusaka City Council with workers demanding a pay rise.

The Zambia United Local Workers Union says the workers have never had a pay rise since 2011 and would hold prayers every Friday until their demands are met.

ZULAWU branch chairman Afro Zulu said that the workers had been patient for too long and now thought it was time to demand what is rightfully theirs.

He said that leaders who were in the forefront demanding pay rises knew how hard the times had become noting that it was worse for the lowly paid workers.

A fragile peace has characterized the Lusaka City Council with the delayed payments still a routine occurrence often breeding discontent among the workers.
