Lawyers stop Ronnie from taking plea

LAWYERS representing former information minister Lt Gen Ronnie Shikapwasha in a case of alleged diversion of public funds towards MMD propaganda activities yesterday stopped their clients from taking plea.

This is in a matter before Lusaka senior resident magistrate Mwaka Mikalile where Lt Gen Shikapwasha, freelance journalist Chanda Chimba III and former information permanent secretary Dr Samson Phiri are charged with several counts relating to the diversion of public funds towards the MMD’s propaganda activities in 2011.

Lt Gen Shikapwasha and Dr Phiri are in the first count charged with abuse of authority of office for arbitrarily directing, and in disregard to defamation laws, the ZNBC management to broadcast Chimba’s Stand up for Zambia documentaries.
