Labour Minister Extends Tenure of SSNIT Board of Trustees Until January 2025.

Accra: Mr. Ignatius Baffour Awuah, the Minister of Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions, has announced an extension of the tenure of the current Board of Trustees of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT). The board, whose term was set to expire on August 9, 2024, will now continue its duties until January 6, 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, the extension was formalized through a statement by the Ministry of Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions. This decision was made in accordance with Section 35 (1) (2) of the National Pensions Act, 2008 (ACT 766). The announcement was made by the Minister during a meeting with the SSNIT Board of Trustees at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Accra on November 28, 2024.

The Minister highlighted the rationale behind extending the current board’s term, explaining that it would be more efficient for the existing members to continue their work until January 6, 2025. This extension aligns the board’s tenure with that of the President, ensuring
continuity and stability in the administration of SSNIT during this period.
