Ba Kaonde one of Zambian tribe says kwibikapo, Ngons say kuziekapo while the Americans says self improvement. Kwibikapo can be translated in English as a strategy where an individual is urged to take advantage of opportunities that may arise.

It can also be translated as principle where a person is encouraged to champion his or her personal goals by taking advantage of opportunities. It is also a principle where an individual is urged to always take part in activities that are aimed at improving personal ambitions.

It is a philosophy where an individual come to self awareness and desires always to position himself or herself without being formally nominated or appointed to take up the opportunity. The personal through personal convictions and instinct zealously grab an opportunity or participate in an activity.

This desire comes at the time when an individual has not been recognized by any person as having the ability to own the responsibility or participate in the activity.

In Zambia this principle is not only up among the Kaondes or Bembas it is a strategy that has been exhibited by a number of individuals.

In Politics when President Chiluba did not recognize the potential current President Sata had.

President Sata decided to form up his own party which was a one man show at the time of formation.

The President went on to promote his personal ambition among Zambians. He featured on many programmes to share with Zambians on his desire to lead Zambian from the poverty levels that the Zambians were subjected.

He developed a strategy which later became a national slogan for the party among cadres. President Sata even went on to adopt the boat as a symbol for the party. Ten years after  the  establishment of the party President Sata finally got what he wanted.

Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho the Chelsea coach was nobody in football as well.

He has never been a great football player not even in the league of great football players like Diego Maradonna, Jurgen Klinsmann and Michael Platini but through self improvement and personal conviction he has emerged as one of the best coach in football history.

He has managed to win national leagues with different teams in different country in his first assignment.

Apart from individuals countries likes USA and China have adopted the kwibikapo strategy as a national philosophy of national self drive.

China has emerged has a country that want to grow its economy through grabbing of any available opportunity.

When USA was facing financial Meltdown china was the only country that went to USA to buy off the bad debt that the USA had accrued.

The lists of persons and Countries that have risen through the ranks of kwibikapo strategy are enormous. This is because kwibikapo strategy has many benefits that are cardinal to human development.

Success comes only if one fully and whole-heartedly desire what one is affirming or visualizing and concentrate on the task. In order to see results a person  should show interest and earnestness and do the best. Inner vision should be strong enough to propel no matter how negative the current situation is, and despite any failures one may experience.

The spirit of kwibikapo has enable individuals to develop perseverance. It has enabled to make a person become patient and promote self development. It’s a spirit that continuously urges a person to participate in any activity that might expose them to greater heights. Kwibikapo keeps to encourage a person to go own until there person ego and ability are exposed as well as until their personal gratification is reached.

I have seen individuals who were neglected by society and considered to be nothing but due to personal self development they have ended up becoming giants in national developments.

We gain a sense of self-efficacy when we see ourselves (and others similar to ourselves) mastering skills and achieving goals that matter in those skill areas. Self-confidence is the belief that if we learn and work hard in a particular area, we will succeed. It’s this type of confidence that leads people to accept difficult challenges and persist in the face of setbacks.

This overlaps with the idea of self-esteem, which is a more general sense that we can cope with what’s going on in our lives, and that we have a right to be happy.

Partly, this comes from a feeling that the people around us approve of us, which we may or may not be able to control. However, it also comes from the sense that we are behaving virtuously, that we’re competent at what we do and that we can compete successfully when we put our minds to it.

Some people believe that self-confidence can be built with affirmations and positive thinking. Raising your confidence levels will improve your life. Having a healthy self-esteem makes it so much easier for you to achieve your goals whether that’s in terms of your career, your relationships or even just being so much happier about life.

So when you see a person utilizing their potential please applaud them for they are practicing the spirit of a higher calling.  Don’t a mocker but a supporter.
