Kitwe City Council has expressed concern over the mushrooming of  illegal boarding houses in the area and has since threatened to shut down some of them.

Kitwe City Council Public Relations Manager Dorothy Sampa, said  some of the houses do not even have toilet facilities a situation she said was posing a great health hazard.
“As a council we are concerned about the number of mushrooming illegal boarding houses, and many of these houses were not being used for education purposes,” she said.
She added that the operation to shut down the illegal boarding houses is likely to commence next week.
And investigation done by Zambian Eye, found that some boarding houses, were being used for sexual activities by some students from some named colleges.
House Owners are turning their homes into boarding facilities due to demand of the service as many learning Institutions in Zambia do not have enough boarding facilities.
