The Zambian Government has said the killing of the PF member in Livingstone, Zambia’s Tourist Capital in the Southern Province bears the clear traits of the Mapatizya formula.

Chief Government Spokes Person Kennedy Sakeni said this in a statement that was released in Lusaka and made available to the Zambian Eye today February 26 2013.

Sakeni said that there was need for the United Party for National Development (UPND) to bear the full consequences of their actions in the death of the PF member who is identified as Harrison Chanda.

Sakeni who is also Information and Broadcasting Minister said UPND Mazabuka Member of Parliament Garry Nkombo is on record as having said his party would employ the Mapatizya formula in the Livingstone and Mpongwe By-elections.

He said the Government would not stand by and watch such a thing happening but would do everything in its power to make sure that the perpetrators of such violence were brought to book.

But UPND Vice President Richard Kapita has said the PF should find better ways of selling itself to the electorate unlike the current trend of seeking sympathy from members of the public by accusing the opposition of being behind acts of violence.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka Kapita said his party was not even aware of the killing of the PF cadre until the time the police went to pick up the Mazabuka MP Garry Nkombo and his Kalomo counterpart Request Muntanga plus 10 other UPND members.

He said the police had also wanted to pick up party President Hakainde Hichilema but could not because they did not know where he was adding that HH was not a coward saying that by the time of the press briefing he might have already appeared before the police.

Meanwhile UPND Deputy Spokes Person Cornelius Mweetwa has accused the ruling PF of wanting to incapacitate the opposition party’s campaign team by throwing its members in police cells.

Mweetwa said his party had absolutely nothing to do with the death of the PF member but instead it was the PF members who had attacked his party’s campaign team which his party only reported to the police.
