Katete woman dies in car accident

A WOMAN died on the spot when a vehicle which was being driven by her husband lost control and hit into a tree in Katete.

Eastern Province police commissioner Grace Chipalila said the accident occurred around 10:00 hours on Friday.

Chipalila named the deceased as Hilda Chawo-Banda, wife of Gideon Banda, a Chizongwe Technical High School teacher.

She said the accident happened when Banda attempted to overtake another vehicle but ended up losing control and later hit into a tree.

Chipalila said Banda only sustained a cut on the forehead but his wife died on the spot.

Chipalila said the driver may have been speeding.

“The fact that he was trying to overtake a vehicle that was in front, then he could have been over-speeding,” Chipalila said.

She also said a two-year-old boy drowned in Katete’s Soweto compound on Friday afternoon.

Chipalila said Jaston Zulu drowned in a well at home.
