Kankayo Residents threaten to protest over pollution

Residents of Mufulira ‘s  Kankoyo township on the Copperbelt province have threatened to take to the streets in protest against the continued emission of sulphur-dioxide from mining activities.

The residents complained that ever since they started complaining about the problem relevant authorities have done nothing.

“People have now developed serious lung infectious due to the continued emission of sulphur-dioxide, we have just now resolved  to stage a protest,” said Kennedy Mwelwa one of the affected residents.

Mwelwa said vegetation has also been negatively affected by the emission of suphuR-dioxide.

Another resident Peter Njobvu called on the government to urgently do something about the matter before lives are lost.
