Pirates has stalled because his paperwork was not delivered to the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) on time.

Kalaba, who was with Chipolopolo at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, reportedly signed a three-year deal with Bucs from Congolese club TP Mazembe.

However, the PSL has confirmed that Kalaba was not registered in time at the close of the transfer window at 17:00 hours on Thursday January 31 2013.

Kalaba will therefore only be able to play for Pirates if he has joins the team as a free agent.

“He can only be now registered with us at the PSL only if he is a free agent and not joining from another club because as far as players joining from other clubs is concerned the window is closed,” PSL assistant general manager Jonathan Schloss said.

But Pirates said the South African PSL champions never made an offer for Kalaba during the January transfer window.

“Clarity on Kalaba: The club never made an offer for Rainford Kalaba during the January transfer window. Only media speculation,” Pirates posted on their twitter account.

Mazembe also said they did not receive an offer from any club on Kalaba.

Kalaba has been playing for money-rich Congolese club TP Mazembe where he still has a running contract.

Meanwhile, Zambian midfielder, Noah Chivuta’s future at Free State Stars looks uncertain as his contract expires at the end of the season.

Free State Stars are yet to offer Chivuta, who spent the last month with the Chipolopolo in camp for the AFCON, a new deal.

Chivuta has made a number of appearances for the team this season, although mainly as a substitute.

The Bethlehem-based side has not yet confirmed if the player’s contracts will be renewed.

The club may see Chivuta leave at the end of the season, should they delay negotiations to extend the contract.
