Kachingwe’s testimony angers Rupiah

RUPIAH Banda says Major Richard Kachingwe is a blatant liar who is fabricating testimonies in court with intent to implicate him in the Nigeria oil deal.

Banda said this to his supporters outside the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday shortly after Maj Kachingwe testified in a case where the former head of state is charged with abuse of authority of office contrary to section 99 (1) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that on dates unknown but between May 1, 2008 and September 24, 2011 in Lusaka, Banda, being a person employed in the public service, namely president of the Republic of Zambia, did abuse the authority of his office by procuring a US$2.5 million Nigerian government-to-government oil contract in the name of the Republic of Zambia which he, in fact, meant to benefit himself and his family.

Banda looked angry throughout Maj Kachingwe’s testimony and vented his anger at him soon after the court session.
