Ishindi says won’t allow his subjects to wallow in ignorance

SENIOR Chief Ishindi of the Lunda people of Zambezi says he will not allow his subjects to wallow in ignorance as it has a negative effect on how they interpret government’s development plans.

And chief Ishindi has bemoaned the indiscriminate cutting of trees by charcoal burners, a practice he revealed had consumed nearly 300 hectares of forest in Zambezi East.

He urged the government to strengthen implementation of laws against wanton tree cutting in the countryside, saying the environment was being badly affected.

Chief Ishindi said, in his opening remarks during a four-day workshop he convened for traditional leaders in Zambezi East aimed at evaluating the successes and failures of development strategies in the area for 2012, that it was in the interest of the people themselves that they understand what the government was doing by being educated on matters of development.
