Impasse at University, PF govt now engages Students

Government has engaged students from the university of Zambia (UNZA) students to resolve the impasse between the two parties.

Home Affairs Deputy Minister Steven Kampyongo said government will dialogue with the students to address the problem that is affecting the students.

Kampyongo who also featured at the UNZA radio programme on Wednesday has also assured the students that government will not deduct from money from their allowances to recover for the damages.

He noted that there is need to develop a mutual understanding between the police and the students.

Kampyongo said government also wants to transform the police to ensure that they are professional in their conducts and meet the expectation of the people.

He has meanwhile denied accusation that the police do not want the opposition political parties to be holding rallies.

He said his ministry only wants the parties to be complying with the police requirements.

Students at the country’s highest learning institution have been up in arms with the police especially after government decided to remove the subsidy.

But government has threatened to start charging students which they said they will even deduct from their allowances.
