Immigration blocks Chirwa at KK airport

IMMIGRATION officers at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport yesterday prevented Professor Clive Chirwa from leaving the country because he did not have any authorisation.

Home affairs minister Edgar Lungu confirmed that Prof Chirwa was barred from leaving the country because President Michael Sata was not aware of the trip.

“Good manners demand that Prof seeks indulgence fromthe President to leave the country to say, ‘I am going somewhere and I will be back’. There are enquiries that are being conducted so we don’t expect him to just leave,” said Lungu.

Prof Chirwa has been suspended along with the board members to pave way for investigations following allegations of corruption at Zambia Railways Limited raised by himself and five members of the board.

And home affairs permanent secretary Maxwell Nkole says Prof Chirwa has to account for the assets he has been superintending at Zambia Railways Limited as chief executive officer.
