I was supposed to be a Priest, Sata tells Uhuru Church gathering

President Michael Sata has disclosed that he was supposed to have been a Priest in the Catholic Church.

And President Sata has extoled Zambia’s First President Kenneth Kaunda for his contribution to liberate the country. He urged Zambians to thank Dr. Kaunda for having fought for the freedom the country is enjoying today.

Speaking during an Inter-denomination church service held at Cathedral of the Holy Cross on Sunday, October 20, 2013 for the 49 years of Independence thanks giving and launch of the 2015 Jubilee, President Sata said he was supposed to be a Priest but he doesn’t know how he left the Seminary.

He said his wife made not to be one. Catholic Priest are not allowed to marry.

President Sata also applauded the Anglican Church and the United Church of Zambia for their efforts in trying to bring together political leaders in promoting peace and unity in the country.  He stated that he was happy to see some opposition leaders attending the event saying that should be the spirit .

President Sata said  opposition leaders should put politics aside and come together during such events to thank God for the freedom that the country has continued to enjoy. He wondered why some opposition parties shun such events where they are expected to join other citizens to give thanks to God for the freedom and peace the country was enjoying.

Some of the notable leaders from the opposition who attended the event include MMD’s Nevers Mumba, People’s Party leader Mike Mulongoti and Zambians for Empowerment and Development president Dr. Fred Mutesa.

But while in the opposition Sata snubbed all state functions.
