UPND Vice president Canisius Banda has told Zambian Eye that his president Hakainde Hichilema and the National Management Committee (NMC) were aware of his visit to State House.

Dr. Banda who is Vice president in-charge of Politics in UPND was responding to a query to Zambian Eye on whether his visit to State House and meeting with President Sata had a blessing of his president and party.

President Hichilema and the National Management Committee (NMC) are aware,” Dr. Banda. “They understand that, inspired by my professional ethics, it was a selfless act of patriotism on my part.”

Dr. Banda a former MMD Chairman for Health who also served at the Ministry of Health said his meeting with President Sata was the inspiration he has to serve and provide solutions despite not being in government.

“They understand that, inspired by my professional ethics, it was a selfless act of patriotism on my part,” he said. “I also note that I do NOT have to belong to the ruling party to serve fellow citizens and the rest of humanity.

He said he has no intention to leave UPND and join the ruling party as it is being perceived by some quarters.

“I remain UPND Vice President for Politics and intend to be so till President Hichilema becomes Republican President and the UPND forms government.,” Dr. Banda. “I did what I did for all Zambians. Posterity shall absolve me. No further comment!”
