Zambia’s opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema has visited the country’s biggest Hospital – University Teaching Hospital to check on the situation following a week long strike by Nurses and other Medical staff. The opposition leader spoke to Nurses who were found sitted on the Hospital grounds. The Nurses complained of the bad conditions they are working in and how Police beat them up on Monday for being absent from work.

Hichilema made a commitment that once he assumes office when elections are called he will ensure that the Nurses and all public workers conditions of services are improved.

The UPND leader sympthisised the conditions under which Nurses were working. He beamoaned the double standards being applied by the PF Government saying It increases Ministers and their Deputies salaries at the whim but cannot look after the professionals that are doing the job.

UPND letter to SataHichilema has since writen President Sata to act on the strike.
