Govt to allow 4th mobile operator

ZICTA must work hard and remove the public perceptions that it is being coerced by service providers to exploit consumers, says communications minister Christopher Yaluma.

And Yaluma says the statutory instrument (SI) that limited the number of mobile service providers to three will soon be revoked to allow many players to enhance competition and provision of affordable but quality services.

Speaking after a tour of the new offices for the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) in Lusaka yesterday, Yaluma said the five-year strategic plan developed by the institution would remain rhetoric if it does not have implementation plans and sources of revenue to undertake the activities.

“Plans, plans, plans; I don’t see how these will be implemented. To me its rhetoric because it is not clear how these plans will be done, the time frame, where will the money will come from, who should do what, among other issues,” he said.
