Govt not to blame for by-elections, says Acting President Lungu

Acting President Edgar Lungu says government is not to blame for the by-elections the country is facing.

He said it is unfair for people to blame the PF government for inducing by-elections saying MPs are defecting because of the dictatorial tendencies in the various political party.

Lungu’s comment comes in the wake of the decision by the opposition United Party for National Development –UPND- to expel its Sinazongwe MP Richwel Siamunene.

He has however said that by –elections are inevitable going by the current constitution.

Lungu, who is also Home Affairs Minister, said the constitution provides for the holding of a by-election in the case of expulsion, resignation and death of an incumbent MP.

This is according to a Statement issued by spokesperson in the Ministry of Home Affair Moses Siwale on May 30, 2013.
