Government releases money for April and May Salaries for Councils

Government has released KR 42 million for payment of April and May salaries for council workers.
This is out of the KR 58 million required to pay the officers in division I, II and III.
Ministry of Local Government and Housing Permanent Secretary, Chileshe Mulenga says the funds will be disbursed to 82 councils. Mulenga said the disbursed funds will include statutory contributions to the Local Authorities Superannuation Fund -LASF- and the National Pension Scheme Authority-NAPSA and contributions to unions for unionised workers.
He said the monthly wage for the 82 councils is about KR 29 million with Lusaka City council topping the monthly wage bill with about KR 5 million followed by Ndola at KR 2.1 million and Kitwe has KR 2 million while Livingstone has KR 1.39 million.
Mulenga explained in a statement that the balance wll be disbursed to other selected councils to allow them pay statutory obligations for may. He has however warned the councils aganist misusing the money saying all those found wanting will be face severe sanctions.
The PS further advised the councils to pay the workers there dues as soon as they receive the money adding that they should use the savings from the money to improve on service delivery.
