Kopeyia: The Akanu Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has successfully intercepted 54 gallons of fuel suspected to be on the brink of being smuggled into Togo. This operation took place at Kopeyia, near the Kpoglo Border Post, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb illegal cross-border activities.According to Ghana News Agency, a press statement released and signed by Mr. Michael Amoako-Atta, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration and Head of Public Affairs, detailed the arrest. The fuel was seized by Inspector Ebenezer Asa-Appiah, Assistant Inspector Isreal Gidisu, and ICO Benjamin Prah during their routine patrol duties. The contraband was discovered in a Toyota Carina vehicle bearing the Togolese registration number TG 9378 AQ. Officials from the National Petroleum Authority in Ho have since tested the gallons.The GIS has issued a stern warning to border residents and the general public against participating in activities that violate national laws and negatively impact Ghana's economy. The statement emphasized that the Service has intensified border patrols, particularly along unapproved routes, and reiterated that individuals caught in cross-border crimes will face strict legal consequences.
