Defence Minister Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba popularly known as GBM has distanced himself from the violence that rocked Mkaika on the eve of the by-elections.

Mwamba is alleged to have been behind the suspected ruling PF cadres that went on rampage attacking the opposition MMD members including one parliamentary who was abducted.

But the Defence Minister has dismissed reports linking him to the violence saying it is all propaganda and has since called for through investigations into the violence. He has since condemned the violence and called on law enforcement to make sure that the culprit are brought to book.

“As Minister of Defence, let me take advantage of this forum to condemn the violence that happened in Katete. It is unfortunate that the cadres decided to take law into their own hands,” Mwamba charged. “Attempts have been made to associate my person to the unfortunate attacks, but this just cheap propaganda.”

Mwamba said anyone found breaking the law must be apprehended and handed over to the Police. He said what transpired is very unfortunate.

He has also congratulated the MMD for scooping the Mkaika seat.

“ Let me congratulate the winners and losers in the Mkaika by-election, that is the essence of debate. Campaigns will come and they will go but Zambia will remain and so let us forge together as citizens in building a better Zambia. Let us become true brother’s and sister’s keepers . May God bless Zambia.”
