Gay rights activist arrested from Muvi TV station

Zambia Police last night arrested a gay rights activist, Paul Kasonkomona, shortly after appearing for a TV interview at Muvi TV station.

Sources say Police, on orders from Acting president and Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu, went to Muvi TV with a view to arrest Kasonkomona inside the studios during the live interview but Muvi TV authorities told them they had no rights to do so.

Police then waited for him outside the studio but the guy stayed inside for close an hour before his friends came and attempted to whisk him away via the motor vehicle boot.

However, Police were searching all the vehicles that were leaving Muvi TV station and found Kasonkomona in one of the vehicles and immediately effected an arrest.

He is currently being held at Woodlands Police Station.

Last week, a group of gay couples attempted to marry at Lusaka Civic Center but were stopped by the City coucil authorities.
