Gabriel Namulambe freed by Court

A Lusaka Magistrate has acquitted Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Gabriel Namulambe in the public servant theft case involving 20 bicycles valued at K11, 000.

Namulambe was arrested while he was MMD Member of Parliament for Mpongwe and Chairman for the former ruling party’s Election Committee. He later resigned to join PF and retained his seat.

He was alleged to have stolen the bicycles during the MMD tenure on November 21, 2010 in Kitwe when he served as Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Mines.

The charge was that Namulambe abused his authority when he served as public worker by getting the 20 bicycles which were property of the government and came into his possession by virtue of his employment contrary to the law.

Passing judgment today, September 18, 2013, Magistrate Wilfred Muma ruled that the bicycles were given to Namulambe in his personal capacity and was at liberty to distribute them.

Commenting on the outcome of the case, Namulambe said he had been vindicated.
