Former Luena Vocal MP, Sibeta dies

SibetaFormer Luena Member of Parliament Crispin Sibetta is dead. Sibeta a vocal ex-parliamentarian is said to have died of brain tumor.

Sibetta was a Member of Parliament for Luena constituency in Western Province, first as an Independent then in 2001 re-contested and retained it under the UPND ticket.

In 2006 general elections he lost the seat to Charles Milupi who then stood as Independent. Sibeta was a  former banker and commercial farmer.

As an MP, he was focal and fearless making strong contributions to the House.

Perhaps one of the motion he moved that he will be remembered was the one to impeach then President Levy Mwanawasa on 20 allegations of abuse of office when he served as Chief Whip for the opposition in parliament. This was in August 13, 2003 though the motion did not succeed.

In UPND he served as Chairman for Mobilization and was one of those instrumental in bringing current leader Hakainde Hichilema after the death of founder leader Anderson Mazoka in 2006.

The funeral gathering is being held at his farm in Makeni, Lusaka.
