Mine Contractors and Suppliers Association president Daniel Chikwa has appealed to government to compel  Konkola Copper Mines(KCM) to pay contractors and suppliers on time.

Chikwa said this in the awake of work stoppages and protest by workers engaged by KCM contractors and suppliers at Nchanga underground mine who were demanding for their October salaries, yesterday (Wednesday 13, 2013).

He said contractors ands suppliers were failing to pay their workers because KCM was not paying them(contractors and suppliers) on time.
Chikwa said about 200 workers downed tools adding that his association hoped that KCM would sort out the matter as soon as possible.
He said about six contractors are affected and named some of them as classic and gigle among others.

And some affected workers said it was unfortunate that they could be delayed in getting their money which they have worked for and called on the government to intervene in the matter.

“The delays in paying contractors by KCM are just deliberate, I think this is just aimed at frustrating us,”  complained James Mwale a worker.
