Anthony Mukwita has been fired from Zambia Daily Mail Newspaper where he served as Managing Director for the government owned and controlled Media.

The Zambia Daily Mail Board has appointed the current Director of Finance, Bryson Mumba to act as Managing Director until the substantive holder of the position is identified by the Board.

And Fr. Frank Bwalya says the firing of Mukwita at Zambia Daily Mail Newspaper speaks volumes about the confusion in the Patriotic Front government.

The Zambia Daily Mail Newspaper Board terminated Mukwita’s contract with immediate effect on Saturday as part of the re-organization of the management team of the Zambia Daily Mail Board has embarked.

But sources at Daily Mail say the Board is not happy the way Mukwita has been running the institution.

Mukwita was sued last week after authoring a defamatory editorial comment that questioned Lusaka Businessman Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba’s 200,000 US dollars Range Rover as Valentine gift for his wife, Chama.

Mwamba has sued Daily Mail and Mukwita in his personal capacity.

Mukwita was appointed Deputy Managing Director at Zambian Daily in 2011 by the PF after wining elections. He was later elevated to Managing Director position by then Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Mwamba who has since been fired.

But Fr. Bwalya, a journalist by profession and now heading an opposition party, Alliance for Better Zambia says the firing of Mukwita shows the confusion in government.

“When one looks at PF officials that have been suspended or removed from their positions, the confusion is more visible,” Fr, Bwalya said and warned. “Those who think they are doing what pleases the Boss, Chumbu should be careful even if instructions to do things come straight from Chumbu himself. Remember Chikwelete.”

Below is the statement issued by the Daily Mail Board on Saturday:
