Finance minister Alexander Chikwanda and Bank of Zambia Governor Michael Gondwe have been nominated for the African investor Investment and Business Leader Awards 2013 by African Investor (Ai) to be held on October 10, 2013 in Washington DC, United States.

The African investor (Ai), a leading international investment and communications group, has nominated the two senior Zambian government officials for the Finance Minister and Central Bank Governor of the year respectively, also being vied for by nominees selected from other countries.

In the Finance Minister of the Year category, Finance minister Chikwanda has been nominated alongside South Africa’s Finance minister MrParvinGordhan, Morocco’s minister of Economy and Finance Nizar Barak, Nigeria’s minister of Finance and Coordinating minister of the Economy NgoziOkonjo-Iweala, Ghana’s minister of Finance and Economic Planning Seth Terkper, Rwanda’s Finance and Economic Planning minister ClaverGatete, Namibia’s minister of Finance SaaraKuugongelwa and Mauritius Minister of Finance and Economic Development Xavier Duval.

In the Central Bank Governor of the Year award, Zambia’s Michael Gondwe would compete against Nigeria’s LamidoSanusi, South African Reserve Bank Governor Gill Marcus, RundheersingBheenick of Mauritius, Kenya’s NjugunaNdung’u, National Bank of Rwanda Governor John Rwangomba, Bank of Uganda Governor Emmanuel TumusiimeMutebile and Bank of Namibia Governor IpumbaShiimi.

Other categories that will be competed for include Best Initiative in Support of SMEs and the Millennium Development Goals, Investor Climate Initiative, Bank of the Year, Carbon Finance Initiative, Venture Capital/Private Equity Deal, Employer and Human Capital Investor, Institutional Investor, Investment Promotion, Leadership in Sustainable Investment in Africa, Africa’s Innovation leader of the Year and Africa’s Leading Woman in Business.

Others include International Business Leader, Up and Coming Future Leader, International Sovereign Wealth Fund initiative and African Sovereign Wealth Fund Initiative of the year award respectively.

The Ai Investment and Business Leader Awards will take place on October 10, 2013, during the Africa investor CEO Investment Climate Summit in Washington DC, running alongside the World Bank Annual Meetings.

The Ai Investment and Business Leader awards was established in 2005, to shed light on Africa’s many investment and business leader success stories.
