The Forum for Democratic Alternatives [FDA] has charged that Republican President Michael Sata told lies to the delegates at the African Union the truth about the state of the Country’s Democracy.

FDA General Secretary Kelvin Mayondi told the Zambian Eye in an interview in Lusaka the Zambian capital that the information which Sata gave to the delegates at the AU Summit that the country was committed to upholding the Rule of Law was misleading because the situation in the country is different.

Mayondi cited the example of what happened at the UPND Rally on Sunday January 28 2013 where Patriotic Front cadres tried to disrupt the rally through violent behavior as an example of how the Government had failed to uphold the Rule of Law.

‘’The violent behavior that was exhibited by PF cadres at the UPND rally in Kabwata last Sunday should be reason enough for someone to acknowledge that there is no rule of law to talk about in this country’’, Mayondi said.

The Opposition FDA General Secretary said even the events that led to the UPND finally getting the permission to hold the rally told the story on how the situation is in Zambia.

Mayondi says the constant threats by Zambia’s Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu to the UPND on what would happen to them if they went on with the rally were a clear sign that something is seriously wrong in the country.

He called on Republican President Michael Sata to correct the situation by telling the truth to the summit delegates and commit himself to offering good governance while making sure that he desists from misleading the international community.

The AU summit has since come to a close and President has since described the it as a success.
