Football Association of Zambia Spokesperson Eric Mwanza this evening reacted sharply to local Coach Wesley Mondo’s statement that caretaker Coach Patrice Beaumelle is not qualified for the job.

Mondo told ZNBC 7 days program Saturday morning that Beaumelle is a physical trainer who should not be entrusted with the top job of Head Coach for Zambia’s senior team. Beaumelle was Assistant Coach to Herve Renard who resigned a few months ago after he was offered a job by a French club.

Beaumelle was then appointed to take over as Caretaker Coach by FAZ and under him Zambia has played three International matches and lost all. They lost 2 – 0 to Brazil, 1 -0 to Jordan and 2 – 0 to Egypt.

But Mwanza described Mondo’s statement as unfortunate and also said Beaumelle cannot be judged from the three games the team has lost.

“I did not watch the main ZNBC news this evening but the number of calls and messages I’ve received on comments attributed to Wesley Mondo are too many and from what I’ve been briefed very unfortunate,” Mwanza said on his Facebook account. “It is wrong and totally uncalled for for Mondo to state (in anyway and for whatever reason) that Zambia coach Patrice Beaumelle is not qualified to be in charge of the Chipolopolo.”

Mwanza further said, “Mondo’s lack of knowledge or understating of coaching credentials, ability and proficiency and pedigree of Beaumelle does not make the new Chipolopolo boss unqualified.

We, at the Football Association of Zambia, cannot in anyway entrust the huge responsibility of Zambia coach to someone who does not posses the necessary qualifications, expertise, proficiency and attributes to take charge of a top team like Zambia.”

He stated that after listening to Mondo’s statement he will either give a full reaction if it will be necessary saying it’s not all statements or comments that merit a response.

But some soccer followers argued with Mwanza saying Mondo was right as the team was not performing well.

“In all honesty Mr Eric Mwanza, whether we like it or not Patrice isn’t the right man for the job. Yes we do not doubt his crdentials and whatever but the evidence is there for everyone to see; he has seemingly failed to jell with the Chipolopolo….let’s not burry our head in the sand,” Samuel stated. “I will lodge in this request with Kalusha for consideration otherwise we have lost too much to the extent that we even score own goals which is very dangerous. So please, just advertise the job and get someone else who is fit for the job (especially from Europe) and let Patrice resume his roll as assistant.”

Mwanza responded, “Samuel Roberts, who says he’s the wrong man for the job? What’s the basis of your judgement? What European coach are you looking for?

He’s “jelling” with squad, focused on the job and he’s doing well. Yes, he’s lost the three matches he’s been in charge so far but that is by no means a failure, not at all. @Newton, delivery at that level is not in a month. Morocco 2015; Rwanda 2016 and Russia 2018 that’s the route Chipolopolo has taken.”
