Family appeals for thorough probe in Chipata girl’s death

THE family of a 15-year-old girl of Chipata’s Madzimawe area who died after she was allegedly given traditional medicine by her boyfriend to terminate a pregnancy has appealed to the Zambia Police to thoroughly investigate the matter.

The deceased, Telezia Phiri of Kayoyo village, was found dead in a nearby bush around 08:00 hours last Friday.

At the time of her death, Phiri, a grade eight pupil at Kaziwanya Basic School, was cohabiting with her boyfriend, Dickson Banda, of neighbouring Mlima village.

Banda who is also in his early 20s had since been arrested by the police in connection with the matter.

Speaking after postmoterm at Chipata General Hospital mortuary on Monday morning, Phiri’s uncle, Joseph Tembo, said justice should prevail in the matter.

Tembo said he was shocked to see that the deceased’s body, especially the abdomen had turned green.
